Art Association members win awards at the fair

FALLBROOK – Twenty-five members of the Fallbrook Art Association were selected by this year’s San Diego County Fair judges to exhibit their fine art, sculpture, and photography works. Both the fine art and photography shows were juried, and only approximately half of the entries submitted were accepted.

In the Fine Arts Exhibit, the award winners were Lorraine Dawson, first place in oil painting landscape for “Murrieta;” Shirley Calvert, a second place in watercolor still life for “Just Ducky;” and Debbie Forbes, third place in fair theme for “California Cuisine 101.”

The following artists were selected for honorable mentions, Jim Bates for “Angus” in watercolor; Lorraine Dawson for “Vail Ranch” in oil; Penny Fedorchak for “Yosemite in Spirit” in watercolor; Ray Fedorchak for “Afternoon Break” and “Bronc Busters” in pastel; Debbie Forbes for “Retired” in acrylic; Jim Helms for “A Local Landscape” in 3D recycled art; Peg Klinger for “Untitled” in acrylic; Linda Phillips for “Joseph’s Time” in oil; and Rikki Reinholz for ”Asian Ambiance” and “British Museum Elgin Marbles” in watercolor.

Rosemary Meis’s painting “In Seventh Heaven” was chosen for the cover of the Fine Art Exhibit program, and Jack Ragland had the most entries accepted from among the FAA members. Jim Bates’s watercolor painting “Freedom of Expression“ was given the special Fair Coordinator’s Award; Bates also received a second special award from the San Diego Watercolor Society.

Additional FAA members accepted to exhibit their paintings were Pamela Benson, Pamela Brasel, Lynn Ely, Rita Pacheco, Marilee Ragland, Natasha Ragland, Phee Sherline, Trina Sutherland, and Carol Zaleski.

Karen Langer Baker, president of the FAA, selected a painting “At the Easel,” by Nancy McTigue for the special donated FAA award.

The FAA is also represented in the photography exhibition. Nicole Toesca received a third place award for her still life photo “Equilibrium.” She also received honorable mentions for “Peace” in the creative process class and for “Kitty Belle” in the best friend class. Patricia Hartman was awarded an honorable mention for her digital artwork “Cirque D’Hiver,” and Jon Harwood was awarded an honorable mention for his creative process entry “Murrieta Creek near Santa Margarita.” In addition, four of Mike Reardon’s entries were accepted for the photography exhibit.
