Firefighters lead the effort to remember the fallen

FALLBROOK – The Fallbrook firefighters Second Annual 9/11 Memorial Hike was held at the Fallbrook Land Conservancy’s Monserate Mountain on Sept. 8. Over 150 participants braved the hot weather and conquered the mountain.

Each participant carried a picture of one of the fallen firefighters who lost their lives during the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

The goal of the annual event is to honor the U.S. military and support the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation.

To register for next year’s event, go to http://www.fallbrookfirefighters.org or visit North County Fire’s administrative building in the 300 block of South Main Avenue. The annual event is held the Saturday before Sept. 11. Next year’s event will be held Sept. 7, 2013.
