National Charity League gives back to the community

FALLBROOK – True to its mission of service to the community, during the 2011-12 school year, the members of San Luis Rey Chapter of National Charity League (NCL) generously gave an overwhelming number of hours and dollars to support individuals and community organizations in North San Diego County.

The membership of mothers and daughters volunteered over 4,000 hours at various local philanthropies, including Fallbrook Senior Center, The Angel Society’s Thrift Shop, Fallbrook Child Development Center, Fallbrook Hospital Skilled Nursing Facility, Fallbrook Land Conservancy, Fallbrook Community Center, and the Boys and Girls Clubs of North County.

Additionally, NCL members donated approximately $55,000 “in-kind” donations, that is, non-cash gifts of materials and long-lived assets, to support non-profit organizations such as the Fallbrook Food Pantry, Military Outreach Ministry (MOM), New Haven Home, Oceanside Women’s Resource Center, Saint Vincent de Paul Soup Kitchen, Stand Up for Kids, and Casa de Amparo.

Equally significant, year-long fundraisers by the membership generated enough funds to award scholarships totaling $6,500 to deserving Fallbrook High School female graduates. Scholarship recipients for 2012 are Kristy Ashby, Holly Contreras, Jessica Leon, Esthela Lopez, Roselia Mendez, Anayeli Sanchez, Devin Stephens, and Maria Uriostegui.

For more than 50 years, National Charity League, Inc. has thrived as one of the nation’s most distinctive and well-respected mother-daughter membership organizations. Its mission is to foster the mother-daughter relationship in a philanthropic organization, committed to community service, leadership development, and cultural experiences.
