Daughters of Norway to make kransekake

Kransekake

FALLBROOK – Trina Tobar, a local Norwegian woman, will bring her skills to the next meeting of the Daughters of Norway, Hulda Garborg Lodge on Saturday, Oct. 13, at 11 a.m. to teach them how to make a kransekake.

Kransekake, or wreath cake, is a traditional Danish and Norwegian dessert, usually eaten on special occasions such as weddings, baptisms, Christmas, or New Year’s Eve. Kransekakes take the form of a series of concentric rings of cake, layered on top of each other in order to form a steep-sloped cone shape. It is made with almonds, sugar, and egg whites. It is hard to the touch, yet soft and chewy.

All women of Scandinavian heritage are welcome to attend the Daughters of Norway meetings held the second Saturday of each month at the Rainbow Valley Grange Hall, 2160 Rainbow Valley Blvd. Following the cultural program is lunch at noon and a business meeting at 12:45 p.m. For additional information, contact Julie Watts at (951) 676-8896 or disneywatts@gmail.com.
