Thank you to fire department

I’d like to offer a special thank you to the Fallbrook Fire Dept. for efforts above and beyond their normal responsibilities.

Last week after dark, a mammoth limb (about 18-inches thick, with all of its related branches) off a tree on the west side of Tecolote Drive broke off, covering the entire west side of Tecolote Dr. With no street light nearby, in the pitch blackness it was impossible to see the huge limb when driving on Tecolote.

My wife was driving south on Tecolote and almost ran into the massive limb shortly after it fell.

Since the owner of the related property was not home, another neighbor, Melinda Wishon, and I drove down to the local fire station on Old 395 to see if they had some kind of barricade and/or lights that could be set up to alert drivers to the danger. The firemen came out to the gate and after listening to us, said, “Leave it to us, we will take care of it.”

Shortly after Melinda and I returned to our homes, some of the firemen arrived, as I could see their lighted truck down the street, adjacent to the limb. I learned later from Melinda that they brought their own power saw and cut up the limb and related branches, and moved everything off the street. Needless to say, after the owner of the property learned of this effort, he was very impressed and appreciative too.

They definitely provided a service that was “above and beyond.”
