Retirees find cruising with Silvergate a perfect vacation option

FALLBROOK – Many residents of Silvergate Retirement Residence in Fallbrook have found cruises organized for their enjoyment to be a perfect vacation option.

From Sept. 29 to Oct. 4, a total of 57 people from both the Fallbrook and San Marcos Silvergate communities took a Holland America cruise from Vancouver to San Diego. It was the sixth annual cruise offered through Silvergate.

“It was a combination of guests, residents, and visitors, as the cruise was open to the community,” said Pam Rundle. “The oldest passenger was 96, the youngest, 35.”

“It has become so popular to cruise with Silvergate that guests often start calling the community after the first of the year to find out when and where the next cruise is going to take place, so they can schedule their vacations as not to miss the annual cruise,” said Rundle.

This year’s trip began with a stay at the 5-star Pan Pacific Hotel in Vancouver, close to the ship’s port. The four night cruise began with a stop in the quaint town of Astoria, Oregon, with two days at sea, and ending back in San Diego.

During the cruise, Silvergate passengers enjoyed the casino on board, bingo, karaoke, dancing, cooking classes, art auctions, and plenty of rest and relaxation. A private cocktail party was hosted one evening by Silvergate (AmeriCare Health & Retirement Inc.) owners David and Mary Ann Petree.
