Fund drive for special education bus kicks off

RAINBOW - The Vallecitos School District, in desperate need of a new/used special education van, has kicked off a fundraising drive with two donations from the community. On Nov. 30, parent Troy Conner and the Rainbow Property Owners Association, represented by president Nita Pearce, presented checks to Vallecitos’ principal/superintendent David Jones. Conner is the vice president of the Vallecitos School Board.

The school’s current van is 20 years old, has 200,000 plus miles on it, and has major transmission problems. The van currently transports six special needs students, making a total of six trips a day to the Bonsall and Fallbrook school districts for services.

Vallecitos is trying to raise $6,000 toward the purchase of a used, low mileage van by Jan. 1, 2013. Anyone who can help is asked to send their donation to Vallecitos School District, 5211 Fifth St., Rainbow, Calif. 92028, Attention: Patricia Bell. All donors will be sent a tax deductible receipt.

For more information, contact the school at (760) 728-7092.
