NRA vows to prevent school attacks

The National Rifle Association (NRA) has stepped up to the plate to prevent future attacks on schools.

Wayne LaPierre, executive vice of the National Rifle Association, stated the NRA’s position. He said, “The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun.” Further, “I call on Congress today, to act immediately to appropriate whatever is necessary to put armed police officers in every single school in this nation.”

I endorse this idea, and the way to pay for it is to tax guns. In 2010, there were 98,817 public schools. An armed guard would only be about $50,000 each or $5,434,935,000 a year. There are about 300,000,000 guns in our country so that would only be a tax of $20 each, a small price for gun owners to pay to protect their, and our, children.

Of course, all guns would have to be registered, as are cars. California DMV has 8,900 employees overseeing some 32 million registered vehicles. That works out to 3,595 registrations per employee. So, it would take about 75,000 persons to monitor 300 million gun registrations at a cost of $37,000 per staff, the DMV average, about $9 per gun. So, the NRA proposition to protect schools would cost about $30 per weapon per year.

As the NRA proposes, Congress should immediately start registering and taxing guns to fund protection of our schools.
