Nimbys never have the solution

The entire North County population, and beyond, is affected by the defeat of Granite’s Liberty Quarry. Why? Rich Loomis (Union-Tribune, Dec. 16, 2012) provides the answer.

Where does concrete come from? It is manufactured from the only source we have: rock, which makes a sizeable portion of California.

Loomis gives the correct analysis of the warped decision of the nimbys and the totally wrong decision by the City of Temecula people. The long haul by truck, fuel waste, road damage, jobs lost, and the positive increase in cost to provide materials for construction is the result of loss by Granite.

Remember the nimbys who complained so loudly when Interstate 15 was proposed? When Mission Valley was being mined, and Mission Bay Park – to name a few that are terrific assets to us all but had to overcome the nimbys.

The seven reservoirs holding the imported water from the Colorado River are dammed by concrete, much of which was mined in Mission Valley.

It remains a simple fact the supervisors and nimbys did not have a solution to our existing problems when they rammed in this decision.

Regarding the Pechanga people, yes, they made a wise purchase to preserve additional property space. I wonder: how many years that will remain in effect? We have no mines in the area and now they have the rock. You figure.
