The 2013 Moccasin Staff seeks to continue producing award-winning yearbooks.

FALLBROOK – The Moccasin, the yearbook of Fallbrook Union High School, won second place in the 2012 American Scholastic Press Association Yearbook Competition. This is the second year in a row the Moccasin has fared well in national competitions. The 2011 Moccasin won first class in the National Scholastic Press Association Yearbook Competition in its first-ever attempt at the national level.

“This is very exciting news for the 2012 staff, the program, the high school, and the community,” said Dave Evans, now in his seventh year as advisor. “Our high expectations for the Moccasin every year are tempered by the reality that, as a 100 percent student-produced book and year-to-year change over in staff, perfection is always an elusive goal. Nonetheless, we always strive to produce a memorable yearbook of which students, their parents and guardians, and the school and community can be proud.”

The Moccasin also took first place at the 2012 San Diego County Fair for the sixth year in-a-row. Scoring results were not available at press time. The 2010 yearbook set a school record by receiving 13 out of 15 perfect scores and 950 points out of 1000 on the scoring rubric.

“These accomplishments are a testament to the hard work and diligence of some very special staff members” said Evans. “This year special recognition goes to scholarship winners Amanda Gibson, Shara Leehey, and Kayla Southard. Behind the leadership of these students and the team effort of the entire staff, the Moccasin once again reached new heights.”

For their efforts, Evans awarded Gibson, Leehey and Southard $1,000 scholarships. All staff members were awarded certificates of recognition.
