Copeland, Dues, Markham named all-CIF in field hockey

Three of Fallbrook High School’s field hockey players earned all-CIF honors for the 2012 season.

Senior midfielder Lauren Copeland and senior goalkeeper Jordan Dues were selected to the all-CIF first team. Senior forward Kathryn Markham received second-team designation.

“I’m just really excited. The girls did really well this year,” Fallbrook coach Kirstin Mueller said of having three all-CIF players.

“The girls that got all-CIF really deserved it,” Mueller said. “They performed really well throughout the whole season.”

Copeland earned second-team all-CIF honors in 2011. In 2012 she scored seven goals while leading the team with eight assists. “She controls the field,” Mueller said. “She’s a great team captain as well.”

Mueller added that after playing alongside CIF player of the year Jamie Garcia in 2011 Copeland was able to excel on her own during 2012. Copeland was also named to the Avocado League first team in 2012 after being a second-team selection in 2011.

The all-CIF recognition was also the second for Dues, who was on the second team in 2011. “She’s been an amazing player since I have started coaching,” Mueller said. “She’s always performed really well under pressure.”

Dues made 81 saves during the 2012 season. She also earned first-team Avocado League recognition for 2012 after receiving second-team league honors in 2011.

Markham was the Warriors’ top scorer with 16 goals and three assists. “She has a great desire to do well that shows every game she plays,” Mueller said. “She’s an awesome player, great player to have on the field.”

Markham earned second-team Avocado League honors for 2012 for her first all-league designation.
