New York Polyphony quartet in concert Feb. 10

FALLBROOK – Fallbrook Music Society concert-goers will be treated to a unique classical music program on Sunday, Feb. 10 when New York Polyphony takes them on a vocal musical tour through polyphony, chant and renaissance harmonies.

This all-male a cappella quartet is an ensemble of rising stars on the classical music scene, rapidly establishing a reputation as one of the world’s finest vocal chamber ensembles. Its repertoire ranges from austere medieval melodies to cutting-edge contemporary works, and with its focus on rare and rediscovered early music, they have earned critical accolades and a devoted following.

With refined musicianship, interpretive detail and unique vocal makeup, while singing, they are four separate instruments working together like a string quartet – striving for a rich blend and uniformity.

“The sounds from this remarkable quartet will be sonorous and impressive – each voice will have a chance to be fully heard in all of its resonance,” said Jane Lorenz, president of Fallbrook Music Society. “New York Polyphony is masterful, their presentation seamless, and their musical insight is flawless.”

Founded in 2006, the current lineup includes Geoffrey Williams, countertenor; Steven Caldicott Wilson, tenor; Christopher Dylan Herbert, baritone, and Craig Phillips, bass. The ensemble has rapidly blazed a trail through classical music circles, and has toured extensively throughout the United States and Europe, participating in major concerts and festivals including the Mostly Mozart Festival at Lincoln Center, the Dallas Chamber Music Series, Ireland’s Ardee Baroque Festival, Festival de Musical Morelia, Mexico, among many others.

This concert provides a rare opportunity for North County residents to hear the unparalleled sounds of a very unique vocal quartet, and will be held at 3 p.m. in the Bob Burton Center for the Performing Arts, 2400 S. Stage Coach Lane in Fallbrook.
