Oscar-nominated film to be shown

NORTH COUNTY – The North County Film Club will feature a showing of “Beasts of the Southern Wild,” a film nominated for an Academy Award, on Sunday, Feb. 10 at 3 p.m. at the Digiplex Theater in Oceanside (Mission and College).

The film takes place in a southern bayou community where a six-year-old girl is desperately trying to repair her world in order to save her ailing father and sinking home. The film received four Oscar nominations, including best picture and best actress, Quvenzhane Wallis (the youngest ever to receive a nomination).

Movie critic Bill Wyman said, “The film’s finale is as spectacular a cinematic sequence as could be had in 2012.” For more information, visit
