The Knights Orchestra, pipa player Wu Man in concert Feb. 24

FALLBROOK – Late night chamber music reading parties in New York have evolved into The Knights Chamber Orchestra – now hailed as the future of classical music in America. As part of Fallbrook Music Society’s 35th anniversary season, The Knights will make a rare Southern California appearance on Sunday, Feb. 24, as part of the group’s 2013 coast-to-coast tour of the United States. Wu Man, one of the world’s premiere pipa virtuosos, and featured soloist with the ensemble, will premiere her own composition, “Blue and Green,” on this tour.

Under the direction of co-artistic director and cellist Eric Jacobsen this vibrant ensemble of adventurous musicians from the New York music scene cultivates collaborative music making, and creatively engages its audiences in the shared joy of live musical performances. All graduates of elite music schools, The Knights value the creative input of all of their members, and their extensive repertoire features traditional and contemporary masterworks of classical, popular, and world music.

Wu Man, Chinese traditional music ambassador and Grammy Award-nominated musician, has created new life for the ancient pipa, which is a lute-like, four-stringed instrument with a history of over 2,000 years. Recently named 2013 Instrumentalist of the Year by Musical America, Wu Man has collaborated with Yo-Yo Ma in the recording of Silk Road, and tours regularly with the Silk Road Ensemble.

This performance is funded in part by the National Endowment for the Arts and WESTAF, the Western States Arts Federation.

The concert will begin at 3 p.m. on Feb. 24 at the Bob Burton Center for the Performing Arts, 2400 S. Stage Coach Lane.

Tickets for this concert are available through Fallbrook Music Society at (760) 451-8644, and online at
