Day care operator lease for Fallbrook Community Center approved

The San Diego County Board of Supervisors approved a lease in which Children’s Quality Services will operate a day care center at the Fallbrook Community Center, replacing the operation currently known as We Care Preschool.

The supervisors’ Feb. 6 vote approves a two-year lease agreement with a two-year extension option for the 1,468 square foot area used to provide day care services.

“The day care program at the Fallbrook Community Center is a great resource for parents. I’m pleased to see it fulfilling the needs of families in the area,” said Supervisor Bill Horn.

The county’s Department of Parks and Recreation, which operates the Fallbrook Community Center, provided (We Care Preschool) day care services since 1999. The day care center provides half-day and full-day sessions. The day care center can accommodate up to 20 children; currently it serves 18 young residents. It serves ages 3 to kindergarten.

The Department of Parks and Recreation requested that the county’s Department of General Services (DGS) seek a qualified day care operator to provide comparable services at the Fallbrook Community Center. DGS issued a request for proposals in September 2012. A selection committee comprised of county staff reviewed the proposals and recommended that the Board of Supervisors accept the Quality Children’s Services bid.

Quality Children’s Services is a non-profit organization as well as a licensed day care operator. The entity owns and operates similar facilities in the county and has earned a positive reputation. The Fallbrook operation will be known as Quality Children’s Services Childcare Center.

The two-year lease term will commence upon the execution of the lease. Quality Children’s Services will pay $1,200 per month for the first year and $1,500 per month for the second year. The rental rate, which is considered market rent for the space leased, includes $300 per month to cover utilities. If the county and Quality Children’s Services agree on the two-year extension, the rent will be adjusted to reflect market rate rent at the beginning of the option period.

Quality Children’s Services will also be responsible for janitorial services and trash removal while the county will pay for routine maintenance on the lease premises.

County representatives stated We Care Preschool will end its program on Friday, March 29 and the facility will open Monday, April 1, under the new program operator.
