Glenn Allen Boren

Glenn Allen Boren was born at home in Rainbow Valley on July 20, 1929. He left this world to join his beloved wife, on March 16, 2013, 100 yards from the place of his birth.

He was born to Jesse Boren and Ida Paine Boren, the next to last of seven children. He attended school at Vallecitos Elementary, and Fallbrook High. In 1947, he went into the United States Army, where he served three years as a military police officer in France and Germany, during the post-WWII American Occupation of Europe. Glenn met the love of his life, Yvonne Bibb, shortly after mustering out of the service. They were married July 2, 1953.

He joined the Civilian Civil Service as a firefighter later that same year. He worked at 29 Palms Marine Corps base for the first few months, during which time, the first of their three children was born. When a position opened up on Camp Pendleton, he transferred there, moving back to Rainbow, where he and Yvonne lived and raised their family. He later worked at the fire station on the Naval Weapons Station, where he stayed until his retirement in 1984. Except for his military service, and his brief stint on the 29 Palms fire department, he lived his entire life in Rainbow Valley.

Glenn was a loving husband, and an adoring father and grandfather. He enjoyed gardening, always having at least a few fruit trees and vegetables growing out in the back yard. He and Yvonne enjoyed traveling in their truck and camper. Quartzite, Bishop, and Laughlin were some of their favorite places to go, and they made many lasting friendships in their travels.

He had a large, close family, and too many friends to count, some of his friendships lasting from childhood. He had firm handshake, and could always be taken at his word. He was very handy at so many things. He could fix a roof, paint a house, inside or out, and could repair almost anything. His family was the most important thing in his life. His children and grandchildren meant everything to him.

Glenn was preceded in death by his mother, Ida Paine Boren, in 1982, his father, Jesse Boren, in 1983, and his six siblings, Willard Boren, Dorothy (Boren) Clemmons, Robert Boren, Kenneth Boren, Gene Boren, and Neil Boren. He was also preceded in death by his best friend and wife of 49 years, Yvonne (Bibb) Boren, in 2002; his granddaughter, Shannon (Fuller) Archer, in 2009; and his daughter, Cindy (Boren) Dunmire, in 2010.

He is survived by his daughter, Diane (Boren) Schroeder, of Rainbow; his son, Jeff Boren, of Rainbow; his granddaughters, Kristen (Fuller) Noer of Hemet, Charity (Fuller) Schattschneider, of Grants Pass, Oregon; and his grandson, Christopher Dunmire, of Rainbow, as well as 12 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.

Private family services will be held at a future date. A celebration of the lives and unending love of Glenn and Yvonne Boren will be held at their home in Rainbow Valley, on Saturday, March 30, from1 to 4 p.m. All who knew and loved them are welcome to attend.
