Robert Selsor

Robert Selsor, born Dec. 22, 1930, died Sunday evening, March 17, 2013 in his home in Fallbrook from an onset of an aggressive malignancy, mesothelioma. Bob is survived by his best friend and loving wife, Judi; daughter Lois Cross; son Donald and Jennifer Selsor; daughter Lori and Al Maisto; sister Alice Finn; brother Dick and Donna Selsor, and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Nedra and Gordon Selsor, and his brother Bill Selsor.

Bob grew up in Long Beach and graduated from Long Beach Poly High in 1948. He then joined the Air Force and served in Japan during the Korean War. Upon returning, he studied at Long Beach City College and, on a baseball scholarship, completed his education at UCLA, receiving his BS degree in 1957 and his MS in 1959.

He then began his career as a teacher and administrator with the LAUSD, serving 33 years at Walter Reed Junior High in North Hollywood. He was so admired for his work at Reed that the main administration building of the school has been named Selsor Hall.

Bob was an enthused supporter of every sport involving U.C.L.A. He was a Bruin to the core. He also loved baseball, which he played with excellent skill as a young man. He was passionate about golf and served in several offices of the Pala Mesa Men’s Golf Club. He and Judi traveled across the U.S., to Scotland, Canada, and Mexico to play golf and to soak up the history he so enjoyed studying.

Bob loved his move to Fallbrook upon retirement in 1991 and was active in the Fallbrook Music Society, the Knights of Columbus, and several other organizations.

A Memorial Service to honor Bob Selsor will take place on Saturday, April 6, at 1 p.m. at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church, followed by a reception at Pala Mesa Resort. Internment will be at the Masonic Cemetery in Fallbrook on Monday, April 8 at 1 p.m. Donations may be made to Fallbrook Hospice, the Fallbrook Music Society, or the St. Peter’s New Church Fund.

Bob Selsor was a truly gentle, kind, happy man who will always be deeply loved by his family and his friends.
