Young authors share their books

FALLBROOK – Recently, in celebration of Read Across America and Dr. Seuss’ birthday, the students of Fallbrook Street School held many special events. The third grade students of Ms. DuPre’s dual immersion class wrote, illustrated and published their own autobiographies with the publishing company Studentreasures.

All of the students included acrostic poems about themselves written in Spanish in their books. On Friday, March 1, student council officers interviewed their talented fellow students. Ethan Ellefsen said, “I enjoyed drawing the pictures the most.” Fernando Resendez said, “If I could redo my book, I wouldn’t change a thing.” For Jason Rodriguez, “My favorite part of the process was writing details about myself in the story.”

Kelly Velasquez said, “My favorite drawing I did was the cover” while Andrea Rodriguez said, “My favorite thing I wrote about was how my friends care about me.” Naiya Kurnik said, “My teacher inspired me while writing.”

Once each of the student’s books were published and returned to them, they took the opportunity of reading them to second grade classes during that special week. All of the young authors had a lot of fun creating and publishing their own autobiographies.

Submitted by Fallbrook Street School Student Council officers Anna Anderson, Tatyana Melendez, Vivienne Nash, Vanessa Hernandez and Emily Graham.
