Chaney selected for concert tour

FALLBROOK – Ashley Chaney, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Phillip Fikes, has been selected to perform with a national performing organization known as The Sound of America Honor Band and Chorus.

Ashley, who has been a Fallbrook High School Madrigal for three years, is an AP Scholar, a National Merit Commended Student, a varsity academic team member, an academic decathlon team member, and performed with the FHS Madrigals when they performed with the band “Foreigner.”

This year she participated in the Southern California Regional Honor Choir as well as the California All-State Honor Choir. She will join other select student musicians chosen from the applicants representing nearly every state when The Sound of America Honor Band and Chorus begin its 2013 European Concert Tour in July. All applicants are carefully screened and chosen only after a rigid character and musical evaluation.

The group is scheduled to present nine performances in some of Europe’s finest concert halls and major cathedrals during its 23-day concert tour. The students will experience the cultures of six countries: Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, France, and Luxembourg.

Students who have qualified for The Sound of America membership are responsible for all costs involved with the trip. Frequently, however, some local businesses and civic clubs who have an interest in helping deserving students will offer some financial sponsorship to the student representing their community.

Anyone wishing to donate or contribute in any way to support Ashley’s concert tour can contact her family for more information at (760) 212-0648.
