Documentary "Dead Man Rockin'" to showcase life of iconic Inland Empire musician at Fallbrook Film Festival

Visitors to the Fallbrook International Film Festival April 5 through 11 will have an opportunity to see a screening of a new, 77-minute documentary called “Dead Man Rockin’” which showcases the life of iconic Inland Empire musician John Harrelson, 62. The documentary, finished in January, has been produced and written by Roger Tessier and directed by Michael Monteleone and Tessier.

“It has received multiple awards already and been selected for five [film] festivals this year so far,” said Tessier.

The film focuses on Harrelson’s long career and near-death, traumatic medical situations that he survived, including two strokes, a quadruple heart bypass, Type I Diabetes, loss of use of an eye, and more. Respected as a songwriter/musician/ musicologist, Harrelson’s life is chronicled “from his earliest days of playing in garage bands in the 60’s through his multi-faceted performing career,” said Tessier.

Filmmakers said the documentary is “more than just a retrospective of John’s life, the team documents John as he performs today with his latest project, and as he reunites with his former band mates in the studio for the very first time in 45 years, to tackle a new tune written especially for the film.”

Harrelson’s influence and impact as a musical force is revealed in the film through interviews with musicians from the 60’s through present day.

“Dead Man Rockin” is a film worth seeing that honors an uncompromising artist who is virtually unforgettable.

The Fallbrook International Film Festival will feature a total of 65 films, many of which include well-respected actors, directors, and producers in the industry. Three unique, behind-the-scenes workshops are offered as well. The peak of the festival will take place Sunday evening, April 7 at the festival’s gala awards ceremony at Pala Casino, when several honors will be presented, including one for career achievement to well-known actor David Hasselhoff.
