AAUW Country Garden Tour May 11

FALLBROOK – As always, the day before Mothers’ Day, the Fallbrook Branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) celebrates the season with its Country Garden Tour of Fallbrook.

For 18 years the organization has offered members of the community an opportunity to visit private gardens to raise funds for local scholarships and to tour the lovely environs of Fallbrook at its best. This year’s event will take place Saturday, May 11 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., beginning at the historic Palomares House, 1815 Stage Coach Lane.

Six gardens will be open for viewing, each with a different flare and emphasis. Hawaii is reflected in one garden that features tropical plantings, waterfalls and palm canopies.

Southwestern is another themed landscape that uses water-conserving plants such as aloes, agaves and crassulas. A beautiful hanging wall sculpture in one garden was created by renowned metal sculptor Ricardo Breceda.

Boulders and other dramatic rocks are featured in several gardens. Pools, exotic grasses, fountains, courtyards, dry riverbeds and even Rail Dragster will be on hand, not to mention backyard chickens.

Those who have a love of gardening or want to admire these properties are welcome to visit and gather ideas.

At the Palomares House, there will be complimentary refreshments and garden music by Flutes of Fancy, featuring flutes, viols and ancient instruments in celebration of spring. Garden-related vendors will also be on site.

Tickets for the tour are $20 (pre-sale) or $25 at the door. Pre-sale tickets are available at Major Market or send email to [email protected], or mail to P.O. Box 1061, Fallbrook, CA 92088 -1061. For further information, call (760) 728-8700 or visit http://www.aauwfallbrookca.org.
