Weekend construction inside Camp Pendleton main gate may cause traffic delays

CAMP PENDLETON - Camp Pendleton motorists will encounter some road closures and possible traffic delays near the Main Gate Friday night, May 3 through Sunday, May 5.

From 9 p.m. Friday to 9 p.m. Sunday, crews are scheduled to construct a temporary intersection north of the current Wire Mountain Road and Vandegrift Boulevard intersection. Vandegrift Blvd. inbound and outbound traffic through the project site will be reduced to one lane each way.

The A Street Bridge to Camp Del Mar will also be closed during this period. All inbound and outbound traffic to Camp Del Mar will be required to use the Del Mar Gate. Wire Mountain Road will remain open.

Beginning Monday, Vandegrift Blvd. will be restored to four lanes. The existing Wire Mountain Road, A Street and Vandegrift Blvd. intersection will be moved to the temporary location. The temporary intersection and several newly constructed ramps will provide access to and from Wire Mountain Housing and Camp Del Mar.

The weekend construction is part of a broader cloverleaf and overpass project that is scheduled to be completed in December.
