I-15 Express Lanes will be closed over weekend due to construction of Mira Mesa Access Ramp

Last updated 5/3/2013 at Noon

SAN DIEGO - Motorists can expect closures of Interstate 15 (I-15) Express Lanes in both directions during the first two weekends in May, as crews continue to construct the Mira Mesa Direct Access Ramp (DAR) and make drainage improvements along the Express Lanes.

From Friday, May 3, at 8 p.m., through Monday, May 6, at 5 a.m., construction activity in the median on I-15 will require a northbound closure of the Express Lanes from Miramar Road/Pomerado Road to Mira Mesa Boulevard.

The following weekend, from Friday, May 10, at 8 p.m., through Monday, May 13, at 5 a.m., a southbound closure of the Express Lanes is scheduled from Camino Del Norte to Miramar Way. During this time, the southbound Express Lanes on-ramps from the Sabre Springs DAR and SR 56/Ted Williams Parkway will also be closed.

Signs will be posted on the freeway to alert Express Lanes drivers where to exit and re-enter the lanes. These closures are subject to weather delays and may be rescheduled to the next available weekend.

The Mira Mesa DAR along with the new Miramar College Transit Station, which is concurrently under construction, will link to the I-15 Express Lanes via Hillery Drive. This will be the fifth DAR constructed along the I-15 Corridor and will support future Rapid Transit service beginning in summer of 2014. Construction of the DAR and transit station is scheduled to be complete next year.

These improvements are part of a $1.4 billion project to enhance local transit, funded by TransNet, a half-cent sales tax approved by San Diego County voters in 2004, and other state and federal funds.
