New wheelchair-equipped van arrives at Foundation for Senior Care

FALLBROOK – The Foundation for Senior Care is pleased to announce that the fundraising efforts to purchase a new wheelchair equipped Care Van has finally been realized. The foundation recently took delivery of the new vehicle with the hope of continuing to improve the lives of senior citizens in the community.

Donors who contributed toward the purchase of the new van and helped to make this much needed resource a reality were invited along with the foundation’s board of directors to participate in an official ribbon cutting ceremony held April 29 at the Foundation for Senior Care office.

“The wheelchair equipped van came at a time when some of our clients are no longer able to get into and out of the van safely,” said Dotty Metcalf, the foundation’s executive director. “Now, these same clients are ecstatic that they can remain in their wheelchair and enjoy a safe, pleasant ride to their destination.”

The Care Van is a free service and operates weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., providing rides to seniors and the disabled in Fallbrook, Bonsall, Rainbow and De Luz.

Friendly, experienced drivers pickup clients by appointment, transporting them to medical, dental and physical therapy appointments as well as to the beauty salon, pharmacies and grocery stores. And now, the Care Van drivers are thrilled to be able to bring clients to the Senior/Adult Day Care Center, doctor appointments, REINS and many other destinations in the community in the new wheelchair equipped van.

Last year the Care Van program provided over 8,800 rides to destinations in the greater Fallbrook area. In addition to the Care Van, the Foundation for Senior Care has three other unique programs designed to help seniors in the community: Senior/Adult Day Care Center, Senior Care Advocacy, and the Senior Computer Learning Center.
