33,000 gallons of sewage spill into Fallbrook's Ostrich Creek

Authorities have issued a statement that an estimated 33,000 gallon sewage spill occurred today, Wednesday, May 15, from a lift station force main at 2841 Overland Trail in Fallbrook. Overland Trail/Ostrich Creek is located near South Mission Road just south of Fallbrook High School.

The cause of the spill was a ruptured force main which started at approximately 6 a.m. and ended at 11:25 a.m., when crews from the Fallbrook Public Utilities District shut down the pump station.

All 33,000 gallons of sewage flowed into Ostrich Creek, located adjacent to the lift station. Signs warning of sewage contamination are posted at public access points along Ostrich Creek and will remain in place until samples confirm that water is no longer impacted.
