Eighth graders promoted at Pendleton schools

CAMP PENDLETON – The two elementary schools onboard Camp Pendleton recently held promotion ceremonies for their eighth grade students. San Onofre School promoted 39 eighth grade students on June 12 in the school’s media center; Julie Hong, principal, and Christie Kay, assistant principal, led the promotion ceremony. With more than 100 audience members there to celebrate, the students stood proudly as they received awards from the school.

On June 13, Mary Fay Pendleton School’s promotion ceremony was sponsored by the Mary Fay Pendleton PTA, and was hosted by principal Joseph Dominguez and assistant principal Robert Huish. More than 200 parents, family members, and school or district personnel were in attendance.

Both ceremonies were attended by Fallbrook Union Elementary School District superintendent Candace Singh and assistant superintendent of curriculum and instruction Eric Forseth who also presented the San Onofre students with their promotion certificates, as well as various members of the district’s school board.

Alexis and Alexandria Lambert, seventh graders at San Onofre, started the ceremony off by singing the National Anthem. Student speeches were delivered by two academically high achieving students, Keely Perry and Isabella Kuhn. The promotion ceremony was organized by eighth grade teachers Bryan Gunner and Chuck Floto. Awards were given for academic excellence, physical fitness, school service, sportsmanship, citizenship and behavior.

The staff wished the students the very best in their future, and said, “It has been an honor to be a part of the lives of these wonderful students as they move into high school and become the leaders of the 21st century.”

At Mary Fay Pendleton, motivational speeches were provided by eighth grade students Jason Alexandre, Destiney Acosta, and Alyssa Wenzel. Additionally, eighth grader Sii Silva sang the national anthem. Besides promotion certificates, teachers and administrators handed out achievement awards to students in algebra and science, language arts and social studies, and PE. Honor roll, California Junior Scholarship Federation pins, and citizenship awards were also presented to students.

Besides wishing the students good luck as they journey on to high school, Dominguez told them, “You are dear to our hearts and will always be MFP Bulldogs!”
