Cordova, Froboese, relay teams compete at CIF

Two Fallbrook High School boys competed in the CIF San Diego Section meet preliminaries May 18 at Mount Carmel High School as individual runners, and two Warrior relay teams also ran at the CIF meet.

Junior Trevino Cordova ran the 200-meter dash, senior Connor Froboese competed in the 1,600-meter race, and the 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams had lanes at the CIF preliminaries. None of the Fallbrook entries placed high enough to advance to the section finals the following week.

“This is probably the lowest number of qualifiers for prelims and finals,” said Fallbrook head coach Marco Arias. “It wasn’t something we were happy with overall as a team.”

Cordova had a time of 22.72 seconds in the 200-meter dash to place 12th among Division I runners. The top 18 finishers in each event from Division I and Division II combined advance to the finals (the top 24 advance in the distance races). Froboese was 24th among Division I 1,600-meter runners with a time of 4:36.58.

Senior Micah Marroquin, Cordova, senior James Pease, and freshman DeQuincey Roberson placed 15th in the 4x100 relay preliminaries after completing the race in 44.79 seconds. Senior Alex Mendoza, junior Rene Hernandez, Froboese, and Pease comprised Fallbrook’s 4x400 relay team whose time of 3:34.61 was worth 20th place.

“The only thing positive that comes out of it is the renewed dedication,” Arias said. “We look forward to rebuilding.”
