Robert Cumming Watson, M.D.

Robert Cumming Watson, M.D., passed away June 25. He was born August 11, 1922 in Williams, Ariz. to Roy and Mayme Watson. He graduated from Pomona College and Northwestern University Medical School. He interned at Cook County Hospital in Chicago. He was a Captain in the U.S. Army at Camp Hood Base Hospital in Texas, ending his service in 1949.

He practiced family medicine in Woodland Hills, Calif. for 40 years. He was a charter fellow, diplomate, and life member of the American Board of Family Practice. He served on many committees and as chief of staff at Valley Presbyterian Hospital in Van Nuys.

Always active in his community and church in Woodland Hills, he continued to be involved when he and his wife Janet moved to their Fallbrook grove property in 1989. He volunteered at the Fallbrook Community Clinic and was an active member of St. John’s Episcopal Church. He enjoyed golf, classical music, gardening, reading, and traveling throughout the world for watercolor painting workshops.

He was preceded in death by his parents and beloved granddaughter Hayley Watson. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Janet; and son Robert C. Watson, Jr. (Debra); daughters Beth Picard, Mari Heart, Rebecca Cooperman (Maxwell); seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at St. John’s Episcopal Church on July 17 at 1 p.m. with a reception following in the church hall. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Fallbrook Music Society or St. John’s Episcopal Church Outreach.
