Two talented artists show work at Z Caf

BONSALL – Two new, young artists will be showing at the Z Café and Gallery from Aug. 5 through Nov. 5. One is classically trained and paints superbly in a naturalistic style and the other has a wonderful graphic style tempered by nature and her canvas is the surfboard.

Natasha Ragland likes to catch moments of action and interaction of living things and show the personality of individuals. As a youngster, she was always drawing portraits of family members, friends, and wildlife from nature magazines.

Later, she studied music in college, graduating from California State University at Long Beach, Magna Cum Laude. She writes songs, performs, records and teaches, with several CD’s to her credit.

When her dog died, she painted his portrait which rekindled her love of painting. Being the daughter of artist Jack Ragland, she grew up surrounded by art and his painting studio. She has received many commissions to paint pet and family portraits. The many other subjects Natasha paints include landscapes, wildlife, fantasy, fiesta scenes, and farm animals.

Natasha was accepted into the first two juried art shows she entered. She’s a member of the Fallbrook Art Association and Oil Painters of America.

Kitty Quinn is a senior at Guajome Park Academy. She has been drawing since she was a child. She has experimented with different media, but her favorite medium is pen and ink…which is surprising since her new work is the art of the surfboard.

Inspired by nature and its organic intertwining shapes, she has painted three of them for the Z Café. “Surfboards are a large canvas with a unique shape, which is what attracted me to them, Quinn said; “I started painting on surfboards when a friend of mine asked me to create one for her family.” Pleased with the result, she has continued with this art form.

She is inspired by the 60’s and 70’s era artwork plus several specific artists: Bill Graham, Robert Crumb, and Richard Freimund. She is the illustrator for The Hummingbird Garden written by Evelyn Schwarz and the artist for a school mural. She would love a career in art.

A reception will be held Friday, Aug. 9 from 4 to 6 p.m. with refreshments at the Z Café and Gallery, located in River Village, Bonsall, http://www.zcafeinbonsall.com. It is open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. For more information, call (760) 940-1751.
