FALLBROOK – The Friends of the Fallbrook Library (the Friends) will be celebrating their 50th Anniversary on Saturday, Sept. 7 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the library.

The public is invited to come and learn more about the Fallbrook Library and see first hand the kinds of programs available to people of all ages and to meet members of the Friends together with the staff at the library who work closely with the Friends to do all they can to meet the needs of the community.

The Friends are a non profit organization totally devoted to their mission of enriching and enhancing the Fallbrook Branch of the San Diego County Library. Though the library in Fallbrook was the first branch to open in the San Diego county system in 1913, it wasn’t until 50 years later that the Friends were founded by a forerunner of the Fallbrook Women’s Club.

The Friends of the Fallbrook Library led the fundraising campaign for the new library, which includes this computer lab.

The Friends raise money to support the Fallbrook library through its membership dues, donations from local organizations and individuals, and the sale of books in the Bottom Shelf. One-hundred percent of the funds ($2,291,468.03) raised by the Friends helped fund the construction of the new library, which opened in January of 2010.

Currently funds are being used to make it possible for the Fallbrook Library to support programs specially designed to meet the needs of adults, teens and children. This support results in special classes, fitness programs, doing craft work, watching movies, etc. For additional information, visit

The Friends invite everyone to come to the library on Sept. 7 to help them celebrate their 50th anniversary. Cake and ice cream, compliments of the Friends of Fallbrook Library, will be served in the community room, located at 124 S. Mission Rd.
