Bus from Los Angeles in route to Casino Pauma crashes on Pala Temecula Road sending 10 people to hospital

A bus traveling from the Los Angeles area to Casino Pauma crashed on Pala Temecula Road yesterday, sending 10 people to the hospital.

According to CHP public information officer Jim Bettencourt, a 58-year-old man from El Monte was driving a 1996 tour bus with 18 passengers on board.

"While traveling southbound on Pala Temecula Road, near Aruba Road, the driver stated that he experienced brake failure on the bus," said Bettencourt. "The bus was unable to stop while entering a curve in the roadway and collided into a metal guard rail on the east side of the road."

According to Bettencourt, after the collision with the guard rail, the bus careened to the right and collided into several trees and boulders not far off of the right shoulder.

"There were 10 people transported to Palomar Hospital with various complaints of pain with the most serious being a laceration to the head; the driver was among those transported," said Bettencourt.

The CHP has stated that the bus will be kept in impound as evidence as the investigation into the incident takes place.

It was stated that it does not appear that alcohol or drugs played a factor in the collision.

"All passengers were from the Los Angeles area," said Bettencourt.

The incident led to the roadway being closed for several hours.
