Fallbrook Music Society names Murray as new executive director

FALLBROOK - Fallbrook Music Society’s board of directors recently announced the appointment of Ann W. Murray as its new executive director, who will head the 36-year old organization. Her appointment is the culmination of a search to fill the position vacated by Dr. Brenda Montiel, who served the organization for more than 15 years. Montiel passed away in July after a long-standing illness.

Murray, who has served in a variety of marketing, fundraising and educational roles, assumed leadership of the organization earlier this month.

“Ann is the perfect fit for us,” said board president Jane Lorenz. “Her experience in educational initiatives, classical music programming and fundraising will really help us solidify the great legacy that Brenda left for the Fallbrook Music Society.”

A resident of San Diego County for over twenty years, Ann spent the first six years of her professional life between the San Diego Symphony and San Diego Opera in both marketing and development. She is widely credited with creating innovative ticketing initiatives when the symphony re-staged after bankruptcy.

Murray also has significant business experience having also spent ten years in corporate marketing, which included a two-year stint at a biotech start-up.

In addition to managing the Music Society’s concert schedule and significant music education outreach program, Murray hopes to increase partnerships with local businesses and other non-profits to better serve the community.

“I am thrilled to be joining Fallbrook Music Society and look forward to building on the great work of Dr. Montiel,” said Murry. “I hope to continue to lead the organization along the path of financial and artistic excellence, while finding new and creative ways to engage the entire North County area.”

Fallbrook Music Society opens its 2013-14 season on October 6 at 3 p.m. at the Bob Burton Center for the Performing Arts in Fallbrook with an Oktoberfest program featuring the Accordion Orchestra Kieper and the Rockenhausen German Brass Band.
