MWD approves SDG&E easement on Red Mountain

The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California granted a permanent easement to San Diego Gas & Electric on a Red Mountain property owned by MWD.

The MWD board’s August 20 vote granted the easement to SDG&E for the appraised value of $115 plus $2,385 of processing costs.

The MWD board also found the easement transaction to be categorically exempt from California Environmental Quality Act review.

SDG&E desires to relocate an existing pipeline facility in order to improve the area’s natural gas safety. The desired relocation area includes 1,150 square feet of MWD property south of the Red Mountain pump plant which includes a portion of MWD’s San Diego Pipeline numbers 4 and 5 and a patrol road. The SDG&E pipeline will be two inches in diameter and will be located inside a narrow strip of land on the side of the MWD patrol road. The easement area is approximately 230 feet long by five feet wide.

MWD has the right to terminate the easement if SDG&E discontinues use of the property for more than three years. The easement conditions also require MWD review and written approval for the design and construction plans.
