Bunn presented with internship award

FALLBROOK – The Fallbrook Gem and Mineral Society has given a special internship award to Mekayla Bunn in recognition of her efforts during the summer on behalf of the society.

A 2009 graduate of Fallbrook Union High School, Bunn is pursuing a degree in geology with a geoscience option at Humboldt State University in Arcata, Calif.

After graduation, her goal is to attend the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) in Carlsbad to become a graduate gemologist. This was the first time FGMS had an earth science university student summer intern.

“It was a great experience for everyone involved, as Mekayla provided valuable support to the society’s summer activities, specifically with FGMS’ booth at the San Diego County Fair and the FGMS Museum and Gift Shop. All FGMS members who had the opportunity to meet and work with her were impressed with her enthusiasm and earnest desire to learn all aspects of gems and minerals,” members said.

She is the daughter of Fallbrook residents Valerie and Harold Bunn.
