JV tennis takes down RBV in tiebreaker

FALLBROOK – In the girls JV Sept. 24 match at RBV, the contest ended with total sets tied at 9-9, meaning that the winner would be determined by counting the individual games won and lost in each set. This made the Warriors the winner 83-76. Coach Randy Hicks was thrilled with the win. “This the first time we’ve beat them in the last three years. Our team was so focused and motivated to win. I’m really proud of them. Their team might have been more experienced, but our team wanted it more.”

On the singles side, each of the three starters produced two wins out of three: Veronica Lowry 4-6, 6-1, 6-0; Katherine Regotti 6-1, 2-6, 6-1; Hurricane Felton 6-0, 7-6, 0-6. In doubles action, Juliana Amenta and Megan Lowry won their first match 6-4 then fell 6-7 and 4-6. Halee Olsen and Emily Duthiewicz won two sets, 7-5, 4-6, 6-2.

Although third team doubles, Sophia Jones and Daniella Loera fell in their three sets 3-6, 4-6, 0-6, Coach Hicks pointed out that their seven game wins were the difference in the tiebreaker which produced the win.

In two bonus doubles sets between extra players, Fallbrook’s Samantha Peterson and Lauren Robinson won both sets 6-3, 7-6.
