9-year-old boy thought to be missing from Pomona found

POMONA - A 9-year-old boy who went missing from his home in Pomona overnight was found today in good health after spending the night at a friend's house without telling his mother.

Christian Stewart was last seen about 6 p.m. Wednesday in the front yard of his home at 591 W. 12th St., according to Pomona police.

Police circulated the boy's photo and sought public help to find him.

Shortly before 8 a.m., police reported that he had been found.

"He's been found and he's safe,'' Pomona police Lt. Eddie Vazquez said. Christian's mother, Judy Coover, reported her son missing after checking on him and finding he was gone at about 8:30 p.m., Wednesday, police said.

This morning, she thanked police and the news media for the parts they played in helping to find her son.

"He's going to be grounded until he's, probably, going to college," his mother said in a broadcast report. "But that's about it. I'm not going to yell. I'm not going to make him do any kind of harsh punishment. I'm just so glad that he's home."

POMONA - Police today were asking for the public's help in locating a 9-year-old boy who went missing from his home in Pomona.

His mother Judy Coover reported Christian missing after checking on him and finding he was gone at about 8:30 p.m., police said.

The boy is described as black of mixed race, 4 feet 11 inches tall and 80 pounds with brown hair and eyes. He has a dimple on his right cheek and a scar on his head from ear to ear, the result of surgery when he was an infant, according to his grandmother.

He has dark. loosely curled hair, about two inches long and was last seen wearing black shorts and a black T-shirt with ''Quicksilver'' printed on the front in white letters.

According to broadcast reports, Coover said Christian had gone to a friend's house to get a haircut, and was under instructions to meet his brother there and return home with him.

While Christian's brother returned home in time for his 7:30 p.m. curfew, Christian did not, Coover said.

Christian's red BMX-style bicycle also was missing, police said, adding that he likes to frequent skate parks in the area.
