FALLBROOK – Christmas comes but once a year, and Fallbrook Music Society welcomes in this year’s holiday season with lots of yuletide spirit on Sunday, Dec. 8 at 3 p.m.., with the trademark sounds of the Sacra/Profana Choir, joining forces with the San Diego Children’s/Youth Choir – and Chamber Orchestra. This festive, family event of traditional and historical carols, and the glorious music of the holiday season, offers two exceptional choirs – each group bringing its distinctive touch to the program.

Titled “An American Christmas,” this year’s concertgoers will experience repertoire of the Christmas season with selections of choral music from both sides of the Atlantic. A mix of American and English Christmas classics are certain to get everyone into the spirit of the holidays.

The centerpiece for this year’s program will be Gerald Finzi’s luminous Christmas scene “In Terra Pax” (Peace on Earth) for chorus and small orchestra, and Benjamin Britten’s popular “Ceremony of Carols” for treble choir and harp. 2013 marks the centennial of popular British composer Benjamin Britten, and Sacra/Profana, in collaboration with the San Diego Children’s Choir will honor the occasion with some of his most imaginative and beautiful choral works written for the holidays. “A Ceremony of Carols” requires impeccable intonation, strong vocal performances and precise discipline.

Sacra/Profana has rapidly gained a reputation as a dynamic new presence in American choral music The “young and stylish choral group” (KPBS) has collaborated with many of San Diego’s leading arts institutions, including the San Diego Symphony, San Diego Dance Theater and La Jolla Music Society. In September of 2012, Sacra/Profana was personally invited by producer Carlton Cuse (ABC’s Lost) to perform in Los Angeles for a special event with author Rob Bell.

Since 1990, the San Diego Children’s Choir has been committed to providing the highest quality choral music education and active performance experience. While fostering an awareness of cultural diversity, the choir inspires personal growth and a lifelong love of music for more than 300 of San Diego’s youth, ages 4 - 18.

Adult tickets for this featured performance are $38; students are $10. The concert will be held in the Bob Burton Center for the Performing Arts, 2400 S. Stage Coach Lane.
