Save Our Forest never lets a good tree go to waste

FALLBROOK – In recent efforts of Save Our Forest/Fallbrook Land Conservancy to maintain the goal of creating a pedestrian-friendly atmosphere in downtown Fallbrook, it became necessary to remove and replace some trees.

According to Jackie Heyneman, above-ground containers required due to under the sidewalk sewer lines in the heart of downtown resulted in a major transfer.

“The trees that had outgrown their pots are now planted in the ground adjacent to the parking lot between Fig and Alvarado Streets, just west of Main Ave.,” explained Heyneman. “Scott Harry of Karn’s Surveying was the happy recipient of the trees and the community will benefit also.”

“A venture like this is not easy with the small group of Save Our Forest volunteers, but with the help of Fallbrook Equipment Rentals, Rick Windbigler and his crew, the equipment necessary to lift and move the trees and containers was provided,” said Heyneman. “Windbigler’s support of Save Our Forest goes back 20 years generously providing his services to help develop the Treescape Project.”

Donors to Save Our Forest have provided funds to purchase one replacement container, and two additional ones to replace the huge ficus that was removed some months ago, she said. Permits have been acquired and the planting will begin soon.
