FUHS yearbook takes first place for third year from American Scholastic Press Association

FALLBROOK – The Moccasin, yearbook for Fallbrook Union High School, has won first place for the third consecutive year in the American Scholastic Press Association (ASPA) yearbook competition.

“Your yearbook shows excellence in the fields of writing, photography and page design and contains elements/sections of an effective yearbook that will be treasured for years to come,” said representatives from the ASPA. “Congratulations to the editors, writers, photographers, layout/graphics designers, staff, and advisor who have made this publication possible. Also, congratulations for Best Underclass Section.”

“This is very exciting news for the 2013 staff, the program, the high school, and the community,” said Dave Evans, now in his eighth year as advisor. “Our high expectations for the Moccasin every year are tempered by the reality that, as a 100 percent student-produced book and year-to-year change over in staff, perfection is always an elusive goal. Nonetheless, we always strive to produce a memorable yearbook of which students, their parents and guardians, and the school and community can be proud.”

The Moccasin also took first place at the 2013 San Diego County Fair for the seventh year in a row.

“These accomplishments are a testament to the hard work and diligence of some very special staff members, especially Editor-in-Chief April Mattson” said Evans. “This year, special recognition also goes to our new yearbook company, Yearbook Squared (YB2). Behind the leadership of representatives Tiffiani and Brent Thunstrom, Monica Brown (senior pages) and Bret Barrett (owner) and the team effort of the entire staff, the Moccasin once again reached new heights.”

All staff members were awarded Certificates of Recognition.
