San Marcos: Sheriff's Department seeks third vehicle in connection with crash that killed 71-year-old woman

The San Diego Sheriff's Department was looking for a possible third vehicle that might have been involved in the San Marcos crash that killed a 71-year-old woman, a deputy said today.

The collision on W. San Marcos Boulevard near W. Discovery Street was reported at 4:20 p.m. Saturday, sheriff's Dep. Michael Gildersleeve said.

The woman was driving a 2002 Infiniti I30 northbound on Discovery Street and making a left turn onto westbound San Marcos Boulevard when she was struck broadside on the right side of her car by a Ford F-250 pickup truck driven by a 31 year-old Fontana man, he said.

"The preliminary investigation revealed the driver of the Infiniti may have run the red light at the intersection...while making a left turn,'' Gildersleeve said.

The collision did not appear to be alcohol or drug related and remained under investigation.

"The Infiniti sustained major damage and the F-250 sustained moderate damage,'' he said. "The driver of the Infiniti sustained serious injuries. San Marcos Fire Department Personnel attended to the female on scene, but lifesaving efforts were unsuccessful and she succumbed to her injuries on scene.''

The pickup truck driver and his passengers were not injured, Gildersleeve said.
