Rail service remains suspended through San Diego County until Monday

Metrolink and Amtrak service that normally extends into San Diego County will stop in southern Orange County this weekend because of construction work on the tracks.

Amtrak trains will not run south of Irvine, and Metrolink trains will reverse course at the Laguna Niguel-Mission Viejo station Saturday and Sunday.

Trains leaving Union Station-Los Angeles on the Coastliner route, and from Riverside on the 91 Line, will operate on the truncated schedules.

Several sections of track will be renovated in San Diego County, meaning commuter trains there will also not run. Limited bus service will be provided to bridge the suspension of service, but patrons should consult the rail agencies for details.

Construction work will be performed at the Santa Margarita Bridge in Camp Pendleton, the Coast Boulevard crossing in Del Mar, the San Dieguito Bridge, and between Sorrento Valley Road and Miramar Road.

Rail service is scheduled to be restored in time for the Monday morning commute.
