San Diego: Drizzle, gusting winds possible as cold front dissipates

Cooler weather, morning drizzle and gusting winds are forecast for San Diego County today, as a weakening cold front and a trough of low pressure move inland, meteorologists said.

A National Weather Service wind advisory for mountain and desert areas is set to expire at 2 p.m.

Southwest winds of 20-30 mph, with gusts of up to 50 mph, are expected across mountain ridge tops and in the deserts, but should weaken this afternoon, according to the NWS.

Forecasters said the strong wind could make driving difficult, especially for motorists in high profile vehicles. Drivers were advised to use extra caution and to watch for broken tree limbs and other debris.

Blowing sand and dust could reduce visibility in the desert, according to the NWS.

A few breaks in the cloudy skies in the mountains and to the west are expected to appear by late afternoon.

Forecasters said a chance of showers would return to the forecast Tuesday and Wednesday.
