DUI leads to intermittent road closures on State Road 76 east of Valley Center Road

PALA - The California Highway Patrol has reported that today, Sunday, April 27, at approximately 4 p.m., 21-year-old Stephen Want from Pala was driving his 2003 Cadillac STS eastbound on SR-76 east of Valley Center Rd at an unknown speed. Want veered to the right in a left-hand curve and collided into a power pole, causing live wires to block both the east and westbound lanes.

Want was not injured in the collision. He was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and booked into Vista Detention Facility.

Due to this collision SDGE and AT&T will have intermittent road closures for the next 10-16 hours while they repair the pole. Authorities are asking the public to please avoid the area if possible.

The collision remains under investigation.
