Lois Rita Busch

Lois Rita Busch passed away Monday morning, May 5, 2014 at home surrounded by her family. She was born Lois Rita Merdinger on July 3, 1927 to Charles Arthur Merdinger and Helen Agnes (McNamara) Merdinger in Davenport, Iowa. She spent childhood summers with her family at Shawano Lake in northern Wisconsin and was a city badminton champion. Lois graduated from Lawrence College in 1949 with degrees in biology and psychology.

On August 31, 1952, she married Eugene Francis Busch in Chicago, Ill., and he survives in Jasper, Ind. Also surviving are a son, Dr. Christopher Busch, his wife Lorna, and their children, Antonia, Mariele, and Brendan, all of Hillsdale, Mich.; and a daughter, Victoria Jespersen, her husband Peter, and their children Garret and Andrew of Jasper. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Jean Kohl, and her brother Charles A. (Duke) Merdinger II.

After their wedding, Gene and Lois moved to California, where they lived for over 50 years before relocating to Indiana to be closer to their daughter, who cared for her mom devotedly during her final illness. In the 1960’s they purchased land and a cabin on Willow Glen Road in Fallbrook and later a home north of town, where they lived for many years.

Lois devoted her life to her family. She supported her husband, children, and grandchildren in all of their work and studies, in good times and during difficult times. She loved family camping trips to the redwoods in Northern California. We all felt her love and interest in us every day of our lives. She gave us the greatest gifts a wife, mother, and grandmother could give: her love, interest, guidance, and support. We miss you, Mom.
