Help for Rainbow Creek watershed property owners - Free assistance for various issues

Last updated 5/15/2014 at Noon

NORTH COUNTY - Any property owners interested in taking control of their property or who have erosion, pest animals, high water bills, or ailing landscape plants can now take advantage of a new, free local service.

Mission Resource Conservation District’s Residential Property Evaluation Program can help identify and suggest solutions for concerns on one’s property. They can help with landscape and irrigation system problems as well as resource concerns, such as erosion or pest animals (squirrels, gophers, rabbits, etc.).

This free service is available to anyone in the San Diego County portion of the Rainbow Creek watershed. As part of this program, a certified landscape irrigation auditor will evaluate the irrigation system, plant types and irrigation schedule. A certified conservation planner will tour the property with the owner to look at any resource concerns.

A report will be developed specifically for that property and will include soil and topographic maps, expert advice and detailed best management practices (solutions) for controlling and managing any irrigation system and resource concerns.

Over the last 65 years, Mission RCD staff has worked with hundreds of local property owners and managers to assist them in setting priorities, completing best management practices, complying with local, state and federal regulations, and keeping their land and livestock productive and healthy for the long term. Mission RCD is excited to be able to offer this new, free and completely voluntary program to help assist even more property owners on a property specific basis.

The program area is within the Rainbow Creek watershed. This watershed encompasses the unincorporated communities of Fallbrook and Rainbow. Funding for this program has been provided by the County of San Diego. For more information about this free service, contact Bethany Principe at (760) 728-1332 or
