SDG&E urges customers to conserve energy to keep transmission grid stable

SAN DIEGO, May 16, 2014 – Due to multiple days of record high temperatures causing increased electric demand and ongoing fires threatening transmission infrastructure, San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) again urges customers to conserve energy today, health permitting.

As SDG&E crews continue damage assessment, repairs and restoration efforts in fire-affected communities, safety is SDG&E’s top priority, and conservation is important to ensure reliability of the electric system throughout the region.

SDG&E encourages the following conservation tips:

o Turn off all lights, appliances or other electrical equipment that are not being used.

o Turn up the thermostat in your home or office (health permitting) to 78 degrees or above. If possible, use fans instead of air conditioning.

o Do not use pool pumps or major appliances, such as dishwashers or clothes washers/dryers.
