Motorcyclist killed on South Grade Road after attempting to pass over double yellow line

According to the California Highway Patrol, an Oceanside man was killed earlier today while riding his motorcycle on South Grade Road.

According to public information officer Jim Bettencourt:

"On June 1, at approximately 12:10 pm a 55-year-old male from Oceanside was riding his 2011 Triumph motorcycle northbound on South Grade Rd just north of SR-76 at an unknown speed. According to a witness, the motorcyclist passed him over the double yellow line and continued northbound.

"As the motorcyclist was coming up on a 2004 Toyota Corolla driven by a 45-year-old female from Oceanside he again attempted to pass the vehicle over the double yellow line. He failed to realize that the vehicle was turning left into Oak Knoll campground. This caused the motorcyclist to collide into the left side of the Toyota Corolla. He was ejected off of his motorcycle and slid under the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

"There were no other injuries in this collision and at this time it is unknown if drugs or alcohol played a factor in this collision. It remains under investigation."
