Patrick James Schmidt

Patrick James Schmidt, son of Robert and Deborah Schmidt was called home by his Heavenly Father the morning of May 14, 2014 following complications from surgery.

Patrick attended Pilgrim Lutheran School in Chula Vista before moving to Fallbrook in 1989. He graduated from Fallbrook High School in 1992 and from Mira Costa College with an associates degree in computer science. While in Fallbrook, Patrick was a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church.

In 2007, he graduated from Concordia University, Irvine with an elementary teaching degree. It was here that he met and married the love of his life, Amber Collins, daughter of Jake and Sharon Collins of San Ramon, Calif. They resided briefly in Las Vegas, Nev. In 2012, they moved to San Ramon and Patrick joined the church and preschool staff of Resurrection Lutheran Church. For Patrick, this was his dream job!

His gift was working with young children and their families. “Mr. Patrick” made sure each child he worked with went home that day knowing they were important and valued not only by him, but by their Lord Jesus. I’m not sure he realized the impact he had on the children and families he served. His “can do” attitude changed Resurrection school and he will be greatly missed.

Collecting antiques was a favorite hobby, shared with his Mom. He followed sports (Padres, Chargers, now San Francisco, and was a huge Nascar fan) so his radio was permanently turned to “talk” sports.

Family get-togethers always found him barbequing or checking the pork in the smoker. Patrick was an excellent cook, and we all greatly benefited from his expertise! With a huge heart, Patrick rescued every cat that ever needed a home!

Patrick is survived by his mother, Deborah; brother Andy (Olivia), nephew Evan; aunt, Nancy Walker; uncle, Jim Boyer; loving wife, Amber; Jake & Sharon Collins; Jacob and Amy Collins (Issac, Joe, Isabella, Aiden and Alexa); Justin and Stephanie Collins (Lily); longtime Fallbrook friends Sean and Dave; and forever best friend Nathan Maycott. Patrick joins his Dad, and beloved grandparents in Heaven, and I’m sure the celebration has started!

Patrick, your last words on Earth were, “I love you, Mom.” I am a very blessed woman; we won’t be separated forever – meet me at the gate.

“The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear?

The Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?”

Psalm 27:1

A Celebration of Life service was held May 30 at Resurrection Lutheran Church in San Ramon.
