Bonsall's Hannah Dickson earns position on California National Jr. High Rodeo Team

Bonsall eighth grade student Hannah Dickson has an exciting summer to look forward to. The young equestrian won a barrel racing event during the California Junior High Rodeo District State Finals May 16 through 18 and earned a position on the California (State) National Junior High Rodeo Team.

Dickson, who will graduate from Sullivan Middle School on June 12, will travel with fellow teammates from around the state to Des Moines, Iowa for the 10th annual National Junior High Finals Rodeo June 22 through 28. Dickson will specialize in the barrel racing competition.

Approximately 1,000 contestants from 42 states, five Canadian provinces, and Australia, will compete for more than $75,000 in cash prizes and over $100,000 in scholarship awards in the national finals.

Contestants that finish in the Top 20 in the preliminaries at the event (based on combined time/scores in the first two rounds) will go on to the final round. Final champions will be determined by three round time/scores.

The final championship competition will be televised nationally as part of the Cinch High School Rodeo Tour telecast series on RFD – TV. Live broadcast of each in NJHFR performance will also air online at NHSRATV.com. Performance times are 7 p.m. on June 23, and 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. each day thereafter. To follow Hannah Dickson’s progress, visit NHSRATV.org for daily results.

In addition to the rodeo competition, contestants are offered many opportunities to enjoy a wide range of activities during their stay.

Dickson rides daily and trains weekly with Nicole Rivera in La Cresta, Murrieta, and competes in one or two rodeos each month. Regionally, she competes in CHSRA District 8 in barrel racing, pole bending, and goat tying.
