Fallbrook High 2014 graduates earn $2.4 million in scholarships

FALLBROOK – Once again the local community, as well as corporate sponsors, has shown their support for members of the graduating class at Fallbrook High School. In a ceremony held May 27 in the Bob Burton Center for the Performing Arts, 122 graduating seniors in the Class of 2014 were awarded scholarships totaling in excess of $2.4 million dollars. These scholarships reflect only those given by local groups, corporate sponsors and the school themselves; they do not include the state and federal monies supplied to assist students with higher education.

There were a few awards of note, as Quinn Harrison received a Congressional appointment to the United States Naval Academy and seniors Sarah Grantham and Christian Rudisell both received Army ROTC scholarships. Sarah will be attending Texas Christian University, which makes her scholarship award worth $170,000 over four years and Christian will continue his education at Arizona State University making his scholarship worth $134,000 over four years.

These are notable accomplishments because only the top one percent of seniors nationwide received military academy appointments and, of the 70,000 applicants nationwide, only 3,000 received ROTC scholarships. Even more remarkable, of the 3,000 ROTC scholarship recipients, only 1,000 received four awards. San Diego State recruiting operations officer for Army ROTC Fred DeMag noted that of the 18 schools in San Diego County with Army ROTC scholarship recipients, Fallbrook High School is the only school with multiple awardees.

“The awards ceremony is a wonderful celebration of the accomplishments of the graduating senior class and a fantastic representation of the great things that students are doing on our campus daily,” said Principal Rod King. “Congratulations to all the scholarship awardees of the Fallbrook High School Class of 2014.” College and career counselor Tony Morrow added, “Warriors continue to do great things after they graduate and play a large role in shaping the future of the world. We are extremely proud of our students.”
